Lindblad Unveils New National Geographic Endurance Details

Sven Lindblad, CEO and president of Lindblad Expeditions, unveiled new details about the 126-passenger National Geographic Endurance. The first new polar build in the line’s 50-year history will debut in 2020.

Lindblad, along with key members of the ship’s marine and design team, explained some of her notable attributes. National Geographic Endurance will have the highest ice class rating of PC5 Category A. She’ll also feature a distinctive profile and patented X-Bow. According to the ship’s builder, the design offers a smooth ride in all sea conditions. The design also increases fuel efficiency.

The X-Bow design improves wildlife viewing opportunities, due to unobstructed downward sight lines. Guests can also take advantage of multiple walk-out areas from the Bridge, an Observation Lounge and glass rails on the top deck for viewing and photography. Additional public spaces include a photo gear locker, The Sanctuary spa, a glass-walled yoga studio and The Den on the Observation Deck.

The ship features a total of six guest decks; 56 standard cabins (40 with balconies) and 13 large balcony suites. All 69 total cabins feature a sofa or reading chair, as well as the new “Command Center” with a National Geographic Atlas, barometer, analog clock and digital tablet with daily programming.

Dining options aboard the ship include the main dining venue, Restaurant Two Seven Zero, C. Green’s, offering more casual dining and The Chef’s Table specialty restaurant. Additionally, guests can enjoy high tea and daily hors d’oeuvres at Recap and BBQs in the heated outdoor Winter Garden.

In addition to Zodiac launches, the ship will be equipped with kayaks, snowshoes, cross-country skis, an ROV, hydrophones, video microscope and underwater video technology.

National Geographic Endurance will operate a series of eight inaugural Arctic itineraries. They include journeys from Norway to Alaska via the Northeast Passage.
