Smart Mirrors Are Upgrading the Hotel Experience

Hotels are always trying to up the ante when it comes to tech.

Over the last five years or so, the tablet has become one of the most popular tech-savvy new amenities, replacing notebooks full of information and enabling guests to order room service or book spa appointments directly online.

Voice recognition and keyless entry are also upping the ante on techs-amenities and one of the latest new innovations is Amazon’s Alexa voice-recognition service, which has been developed in a hospitality-friendly way for Marriott.

Now, smart mirrors are on the horizon.

Seattle startup MirrorCache has caught the eye of major hospitality brands such as Disney, Marriott, Hyatt, Sheraton and more, and now the company is raising more money to further develop its product, which has vast potential, according to a report on Geekwire.

The SmartAccessMirror is a touch- and voice-enabled mirror that acts as a screen and has a built-in safe and has the capability for fingerprint and facial recognition. It also communicates with Alexa, so guests staying at a hotel could say, “Alexa, order room service” and a menu would appear with navigable options on the mirror.

Needless to say, the product has piqued the interest of major hospitality brands.

MirrorCache has the potential to change the game in the hospitality and guest service industry,” says a quote from Walt Disney World Resorts on the MirrorCache website.

“I honestly do not see how there could be a better time and place to start the dialogue around your product,” was a comment from Marriott Hotels, also posted to the MirrorCache site.

In addition to being highly functional, the product also looks sleek and stylish and it’s easy to see how it would “smarten” up any hotel room.
