MORE Impacting Travel

The Sunday following Thanksgiving is widely considered the busiest travel day of the year, but the delays and cancellations caused by the Blizzard in the Midwest weren’t just confined to the weekend.

On Monday, travel disruptions continued to the tune of over 850 canceled flights and over 930 flights delayed across the United States, as of 10 a.m. ET.

The winter conditions forced Kansas to declare a state of disaster emergency and close a portion of Interstate 70 due to poor visibility and road conditions. In addition, roads in other impacted areas of the Midwest and the Great Lakes were also closed.

The winter storm is expected to hit Indiana and Michigan Monday before moving to the northern East Coast area where it could impact travel in major cities such as Boston, New York and Philadelphia.

Travelers heading to or from the Midwest early this week are being asked to contact their airline before heading to the airport to make sure their flight is still on time.
