Typhoon Jebi Disrupting Japanese Travel

Six people were killed and hundreds of flights were canceled as Typhoon Jebi made landfall in Japan Tuesday.

According to Reuters, evacuation advisories were in place for more than a million people as the strongest typhoon in over 25 years hit Japan. In addition to the six deaths attributed to the storm, over 150 people were injured.

Due to the heavy rain, high winds and flooding brought by the storm, Kansai International Airport in Osaka was forced to close as the facility’s runway was completely submerged and hangers were under several feet of water.

The bridge that connected the airport to the mainland was also damaged and closed when the strong winds and high tides caused a tanker ship to crash into the structure, which was captured on Twitter:

In addition to the closure of Kansai airport, there have been reported delays and cancellations at other facilities on the island, including Tokyo International Airport, Narita International Airport and Itami Airport, according to FlightAware.com.
