US Warns Commercial Flights About Dangers of Flying Near Iran

Diplomats from the United States issued a warning to commercial airliners flying near or through the Persian Gulf of the risks of being misidentified amid tensions between the U.S. and Iran.

According to The Associated Press, the Federal Aviation Administration notice was an advisory to all commercial aircraft flying over the waters of the Persian Gulf and the Gulf of Oman they need to be aware of “heightened military activities and increased political tension.”

The FAA warning touched on concerns regarding miscalculation or misidentification, as well as interference with its navigation instruments and communications jamming.

The region has evolved into a primary gateway between the East and the West, with Dubai International Airport in the United Arab Emirates being ranked the airlines/dubai-airport-remained-busiest-for-international-traffic-in-2018.html” target=”_self” rel=”nofollow noopener noreferrer”>world’s busiest for international travel.

The top carriers in the region, airlines/emirates-is-rethinking-its-global-route-networks.html” target=”_self” rel=”nofollow noopener noreferrer”>Emirates, Etihad and Qatar Airways, have all received the notice and said operations were not impacted.
