A startling video has surfaced online of a drone flying too close to an Emirates passenger plane as it took off from the island nation of Mauritius.
According to RT.com, Emirates Flight EK702 was taking off from Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam International Airport in Mauritius to Dubai International Airport when the Airbus A380 came within around 110 yards of the drone.
The footage from the drone was uploaded online and shows the small aircraft hovering near the end of the Mauritius airport runway as the A380 takes off. As the plane begins ascending, it narrowly misses the drone before continuing its flight.
The video was shared on YouTube on July 18, but it is unclear when the footage was actually filmed:
The A380 plane has the capability of carrying more than 500 passengers in a typical three-class configuration and hitting the drone could have seriously damaged the aircraft’s engines.
