Washington DC Area Airport Updates

The local Washington DC area airports have put in place changes through the COVID-19 pandemic.

Most domestic airlines (includes Southwest Airlines) no longer offer inflight food/beverage service.  Travelers should bring their own food and remember that airport restaurants may have reduced hours and/or be closed. DCA & IAD Restaurant Hours for establishments that wish to open are 6a-6p until further notice

DCA

  • Weather/Security/Emergency situations impacting flights and/or delays will be posted here by the FAA: https://www.fly.faa.gov/flyfaa/AirportLookup.jsp?q=DCA&go=1
  • Airline Cancellations are HIGH due to low bookings and Stay at Home orders. Here’s a daily list of cancelled flights out of DCA: https://flightaware.com/live/cancelled/today/KDCA
    • Airlines like PSA, ExpressJet, Envoy, Endeavor, Commute, Republic are all regional, smaller airlines that have planes painted like American, United or Delta and operate flights on their behalf to smaller cities. Passengers generally don’t know/pay attention when they’re flying on a regional airline.
    • Example: PSA Airlines & Envoy Air operates as American Airlines therefore, on 3/27, PSA’s 117 cancellations and Envoys 8 would be added to American’s cancels: 83 for 208 AA flights cancelled from DCA today.
      • Envoy Air operates as American
      • ExpressJet operates as United
      • Endeavor Air operates as Delta
      • CommuteAir operates as United
      • Republic Airlines varies they have aircraft for United, Delta & AA.
  • Cell phone lot is closed until further notice due to Project Journey. Parking in all garages is free for 1 hour.
  • Economy Lot is closed. Travelers should park in the two garages in front of the terminals. The rate has been reduced from $24/day to economy rate of $17.
  • The Terminal C entrance to Metrorail is now closed.

IAD – Dulles

  • Weather/Security/Emergency situations impacting flights and/or delays will be posted here by the FAA: https://www.fly.faa.gov/flyfaa/AirportLookup.jsp?q=IAD&go=1
  • Airline Cancellations are HIGH due to low bookings and Stay at Home orders. Here’s a daily list of cancelled flights out of Dulles: https://flightaware.com/live/cancelled/today/KIAD
    • Different from DCA: IAD is the international gateway to the DC region (DCA doesn’t have Immigration officers/offices). Therefore a lot of international carriers will be listed with cancellations.
  • Economy Parking Lot & Parking Garage 2 are CLOSED due to lack of travelers.
    • All travelers should park in Garage 1 the usual rate of $17/day has been reduced to the Economy Parking rate of $10/day.

BWI

    • Only ticketed travelers & employees may access the building

  • Long Term Parking Lots, Express Lot & Valet are closed.
  • Daily Garage remains open at reduced rate of $8/day
