Will Friday Be the Busiest Day in TSA History?

The Fourth of July holiday is nearly upon us and travelers have big plans for the week. AAA predicted a record-breaking number of people are planning to take a vacation this week and many will be flying.

In fact, according to their statistics, 3.8 million people are taking to the skies—a 7.9 percent increase in the number of passengers flying last year over the Fourth.

The expected surge in travelers has led the TSA to advise passengers flying this Friday, June 29, 2018, to arrive for flights earlier than usual as it is estimated to be “one of the busiest days ever.”

The TSA posted some statistics to demonstrate Fourth of July traffic on Twitter.

Roughly 28.3 million passengers and staff are expected to fly from June 28 through July 9.

In order to break the record, which was set on November 28, 2004, more than 2,713,864 passengers will need to take to the skies.

At a news conference, TSA agents said that travelers could wait up to an hour or more at screening checkpoints.

Travelers who want to stay updated on screening times can download the MyTSA app and keep track of airport security information.
