Delta Flash Sale: U.S. to London for 48,000 SkyMiles

It’s a new month and a new Delta Air Lines flash sale for SkyMiles members who have a chance to redeem fewer miles than usual for a trip to London.

For a limited-time, Delta award flights from the United States to England’s capital can be booked for 48,000 SkyMiles. Usually, low-level awards to Europe require at least 60,000 SkyMiles, so this deal saves you 12,000 miles on a round-trip award.

To take advantage of the promo, you must book your flight by 11:59 p.m. EST on Nov. 15 and travel between Jan. 9 and May 10.

Keep in mind that only Delta-operated flights are eligible for the promo, which means that flights operated by Virgin Atlantic will not be listed for the same cost in miles. Also mind the somewhat high taxes that apply to most flights that go through Heathrow Airport. These particular awards tack on around $185 in additional charges.

Although it might be a bit cold for travel in the winter months, spring in London is lovely. And don’t forget that London is a perfect gateway city to the rest of Europe. You often can book flights within Europe for cheap and continue exploring the continent.

As far as availability, it’s wide open! Let’s look at some options. Here are round-trip non-stop flights from Salt Lake City and back—just 48,000 SkyMiles.

And here are similar flights from Los Angeles to London Heathrow, with stops in Minneapolis on the outbound and in Salt Lake City on the return. Same open availability costs just 48,000 SkyMiles + $190.

At the time of writing, I was able to find the same round-trip flights for around $600, so this is something to keep in mind when deciding whether you want to redeem your miles or pay cash. You might not achieve the best cents-per-mile value, but then again, if you can save cash, why not redeem the miles you have.

Just remember, the sale ends at midnight, and the awards will go back up to regular redemption rates.
