Dubai Tourist Racks Up $46,000 in Fines in Rented Supercar

A British tourist is facing fines in excess of $46,000 after having a little too much fun in a rented Lamborghini Huracan in Dubai last week.

According to The National, the 25-year-old man triggered every speed camera on the busy Sheikh Zayed Road in the early hours of July 31, reaching a top speed of 150 mph en route to collecting 33 traffic offenses in under four hours.

The fines break down to $19,000 for the speeding tickets and another $27,000-plus to retrieve the car from police impound.

Saeed Ali Rent a Car said the tourist still has the supercar and they are refusing to take it back as they don’t want to be on the hook for the fines.

One of the dealership’s partners, Faris Iqbal, told The National that the British Embassy has been notified of the incident and that it still has the man’s passport as collateral.

“We can’t pay this amount should the car be taken into the pound,” said Iqbal. “It’s still with the tourist, parked at his hotel. I won’t be trying to take it back, because once I do, I know I have to surrender it to police.”

“Then who pays the money for the impound? We shouldn’t do so for sure. It’s his fault and he should pay that amount,” he added.

The tourist gave his address as the five-star Five Palm Jumeirah Hotel and Resort.
