National WWII Museum Offers Special D-Day Cruises

Travelers can be a part of a very special WWII cruise that commemorates the 75th Anniversary of D-Day.

The National WWII Museum is chartering two once-in-a-lifetime luxury cruises that will allow guests of all ages experience this momentous occasion on location in France. The 550-guest Seabourn Ovation will set sail May 29 for a voyage through June 7, 2019, and the 500-guest Regent Seven Seas Navigator will sail from May 30 through June 8, 2019.

WWII veterans will be onboard the sailings, some of whom participated in the storming of the beaches of Normandy 75 years ago. The cruise will be led by authors, historians and expert battlefield guides. Historical context will be provided directly from the Museum’s curators as well as primary-source materials from the institution’s digital collections. There will be 1940s entertainment onboard and veterans will share their personal experiences with guests.

The experiences culminate at the French and American ceremony at Normandy American Cemetery, commemorating the Allied landings that took place on June 6, 1944.

The itinerary sail the North Sea and the English Channel to battleground sites and historical landmarks, following the path of Germany’s conquest of Western Europe and the Allied efforts to wrest control back from the Nazis.
